WI-AIMH seeks Communications Intern for our Conference!
WI-AIMH is seeking a communications intern/interns for the Fall 2019 and possibly Spring 2020 semester to assist with photo and video documentation of our annual Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Conference, held October 14-16, 2019 at the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake, WI. Our annual conference reaches 400+ professionals from across the state.
We have a small stipend available for the conference support portion of our posting. Our preference would be to find at least one student who would be interested in an internship in the fall 2019 or Spring 2020 semesters. The unpaid portion of the internship would primarily be focused around post-production and editing of footage gathered at the conference as well as creation of broadcast-ready training videos. Scripts and storyboards (when appropriate), topics, and creative guidance/supervision will be provided as part of this internship.
To be considered for this internship, please submit application by June 30, 2019.

Advocacy Alert from ZERO TO THREE: A CHAMPION for BABIES Needs YOUR Urgent Action
The following message is from Matthew Melmed, Executive Director of ZERO TO THREE:
For four months now, Yiğit Aksakoğlu, a ZERO TO THREE Fellow and champion for babies, has been held in solitary confinement at Silivri Prison in the Istanbul province of Turkey. Yiğit’s arrest stems from his peaceful participation in civil disobedience in the Gezi Park protests in 2013. In what Amnesty International is characterizing as “trumped-up” accusations, Yiğit has been charged with attempting to overthrow the government or preventing it from performing its duties.
Will you help us demand justice for Yiğit by urging Turkish officials to release him and drop all charges against him?
At the time of his arrest, Yiğit was working for the Bernard van Leer Foundation, a global philanthropy that seeks to improve opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged young children. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Yiğit and can vouch for his exemplary commitment to making the world better for all babies. A husband and the father of two young daughters, he is deeply admired and respected by his peers in his Fellows class.
As a fellow advocate for babies, we need YOU to raise your voice NOW to help Yigit! Join me in demanding justice for Yigit. Email Turkish officials (contact information below) and urge them to release Yiğit and drop all charges against him. If you’d like, you can use the sample letter provided below.
As fellow baby champions, thank you so much for standing up for a wonderful man who has dedicated his life to standing up for babies!
Sincerely,
Matthew E. Melmed

Email Text:
I am deeply concerned about the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 30’s March 4th decision accepting the indictment against Yiğit Aksakoğlu and 15 other prominent civil society figures accusing of them of attempting to overthrow the government or prevent it from performing its duties during 2013’s Gezi Park protests.
These protests were peaceful in nature and there is no credible evidence linking any of the individuals named in this indictment with acts of violence or public disorder. The indictment is filled with unsubstantiated accusations that attempt to rewrite the history of the Gezi Park protests and silence some of Turkey’s most prominent civil society figures. If found guilty of these baseless charges, Aksakoğlu and the others could face life in prison without parole.
Yiğit Aksakoğlu has been detained for almost four months based on these claims—that is four months too many. I urge you to do everything in your power to ensure that all charges against Yiğit Aksakoğlu are dropped, and that he and the other activists are released.
Sincerely,

2019 WI-AIMH Advocacy Action Alert
Purpose: Foster bi-partisan support of the social and emotional well-being of infants, young children, and families during the state legislative budgeting process.
Action Steps: Local Action to Create a Statewide Priority
1) Find your elected official
Click on this link.
Type in your address in the search bar in the right hand corner.
Your Representative and Senator’s names will appear.
2) Compare your elected officials with members of the Joint Committee on Finance Members. If your elected official is on Joint Finance, please call or e-mail her/him. You may speak to a staffer and that’s not a bad thing. These folks are often the people who research and help craft public policy. Here are some messages we want you to share:
Tell them who you are, where you live, and what you do to support infants, young children, families, and the workforce that serves them. It’s really important to include your address so they know you’re a constituent who can vote for them…or not.
Let them know why you believe the social and emotional development of children in the context of families, communities, and culture is so important. A specific story or example about kids and families is one of the most powerful ways to convey the importance of this information.
Help them understand why the social and emotional development of children is important.
Between 9.5% and 14.2% of children age birth to 5 experience an emotional or behavioral disturbance, and preschool expulsion rates are more than three times the expulsion rate of students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
In a recent Wisconsin study, challenging behaviors were the number one reason providers cited for expelling children from preschool settings.
Boys, children of color, and children with special needs had even higher rates of early childhood expulsion.
These startling statistics make it clear that very young children can and do have mental health needs.
Let them know that budget decisions related to the needs of children and families is important to you.
Ask them to consider how the state budget prioritizes the needs of our youngest members and their families.
Thank them for their time and commitment to infants, young children, and their families. When building relationships and awareness, it never hurts to assume positive intent.
3) Share this request and these tips with other people who love infants, children, and families. Ask friends, families, and colleagues to call or e-mail their elected officials too.
4) Please e-mail Tina Hogle, at WI-AIMH THogle@wiaimh.org to share your action and what kind of response you received.
Thank you for your support!

Do you have questions about IMH-Endorsement® Renewal? Download our step-by-step guide!
As of 2018, WI-AIMH will be requiring all IMH-Endorsed professionals to renew their IMH-Endorsement®. WI-AIMH has created a renewal guide to help walk you through this process.
The Renewal requirements as determined by the Alliance for the Advancement of IMH are as follows:
Required: A minimum of 15 clock hours of training related to culturally-sensitive, relationship-focused practice promoting infant mental health
Required: Annual renewal of membership to an IMH Association (WI-AIMH, the World Association of IMH, or another state IMH Association).
Strongly recommended: WI-AIMH recommends that all Endorsed® professionals seek reflective supervision or consultation, particularly for those who provide reflective supervision or consultation.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Aside from the $60 Annual IMH Membership renewal, are there any other costs associated with renewing my IMH-Endorsement®?
No, there are no other costs, aside from costs associated with attending training events.
How do I submit my IMH-E® Renewal?
By 2018 there will be an option to renew your IMH-Endorsement through the EASy online system. This option is not currently available but it will be available by 2018, which means Endorsed® professionals will be able to log into their application and renew each year within their application.
I earned IMH Endorsement® before EASy was developed, how should I renew? For individuals who earned Endorsement before EASy was developed, a form will be provided to record the requirements for renewal.
By what date will I need to submit renewal? Renewals will be due by January 31 of each year; therefore, for CY 2018 you will have until January 31, 2019 to submit your renewal.
If someone becomes Endorsed® in 2018, would they be required to renew? Not in 2018. If an individual earns Endorsement® in 2018 he/she would not be required to submit renewal for CY 2018, but would be required to submit renewal for CY 2019.
WI-AIMH will continue to send notices, reminders and additional information so that you feel well-prepared for this change. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact WI-AIMH at info@wiaimh.org or by calling (608) 442-0360.
